Working with any type of boss

Most everyone I work with has a boss, and I am repeatedly asked about managing up – people want to know how to “manage” their boss. While I think the question is framed wrong (I’ve talked about that on Remarkable TV), it is what people ask. Somehow people feel that without positional power, they don’t have the ability to influence those for whom they work.

Thankfully, I’ve met the woman who “wrote the book” with the answers. Mary Abbajay has written the best book about the importance of and skills for influencing those above you organizationally. I met her when she was a guest on our podcast, and I immediately knew we wanted to host her on a webinar – giving you the chance to learn from her insights and ideas.

Managing up isn’t about politics or sucking up. It is about understanding the style of your boss and using proven approaches to be more influential with them to make your life (and career) better, and help your team succeed, too. And that style piece is key! While you may have concerns in general about managing up, chances are some types of bosses make it seem impossible!

If you are in this situation, you will want to join Mary as she helps you manage any type of boss with greater confidence and success.

More specifically, after this interactive 60 minutes, you will:

  • Learn to work with the boss you actually have, and not the one you wish you had!
  • Understand and manage personality differences that impact manager/staff relationships.
  • Recognize different leadership styles and explore adaptive strategies for communicating and collaborating with each style.
  • Understand your own and your supervisors’ “hot buttons.”
  • Increase organizational trust among your managers and peers.
  • Take ownership for your own professional success.

By now you can probably tell I am a fan of Mary and her work. She will be helping answer this common and pressing question. While the webinar will be powerful and provide great value, your webinar registration will also get you a copy of her book; Managing Up: How to Move up, Win at Work and Succeed with any Type of Boss.

You can join Mary on September 19, for 60 minutes, starting at 1:30 pm ET, or you can purchase the recording to review and learn at your convenience. Either way, you will get a copy of her book.
