I just got off a members-only teleseminar in the Remarkable Leadership Learning System with Patti Ayars, founder of Turning Point Consulting and author of the new book The Art of Leading Transformation Change.  One of the insights she shared during the call was . . .

People join a company, but leave a supervisor.

I believe she is right.

Even though our call was focused on communicating change effectively, we kept coming back to bedrock principles of trust and relationships as key components of the change process.

If you are having trouble with change implementation, think about the levels of trust and the quality of the relationships in your organization (or with YOU).  This insight may help you identify a root cause of slow change or significant resistance.

It might be time to step back from the change and focus on these other issues first.

Consider that your leadership activity for today – find one way to build trust or strengthen a relationship, right now.  It isn’t a “nice to do”  it, may be the most important thing you can do to improve your organizational results in both the short and long term.
