Change is a challenging topic – one that is written about often. Heck, it is one that I write about, speak about, and consult on regularly. Today’s quotation cuts at the personal side of change, stating a profound truth. Below, I will help you think about this, both personally and professionally.
Questions to Ponder
– What significant changes have you made in your life?
– How did your heart or your emotions play into that change?
– What changes do you want to make now?
Action Steps
1. Recognize the role emotion plays in any change.
2. Consider any change you want to make from the emotional perspective.
3. Stop trying to communicate change to others with facts, and allow the emotional component into the equation.
My Thoughts
My thoughts about this quotation today focus largely on the last action step above. As a leader, you are always trying to create, nurture, and communicate change. And you can’t do that with just the facts and the numbers. The fact is, there is always an emotional component to change.
Always.
And while our personal experience proves that when we try to communicate and lead change, we forget that all change, as Lucado says, starts with the heart.
If you want help others get on board with a change, you have to help them change their heart, and when you do, you are far down the path. Trying to get down that path a different way will be frustrating, and likely unsuccessful.

Before a leader can expect to influence or create change, they themselves must be willing to change the person in the mirror. Great thoughts here!
