Consider Do this thought exercise with me:
- Think of the best teacher you have personally experienced and write down (or at least quickly think about) what made them so effective.
- Think of the best leader you have personally experienced and write down (or at least quickly think about) what made them so effective.
- Compare the lists.
Notice anything? Are you surprised at how much overlap there is?
Yes, the best leaders are teachers. And most likely, your experience shows that they aren’t just good at the technical part of the work (the subject matter or industry), but the people part of the job. Think what it is that made you consider them effective and learn from their example.
Since you have now thought about two influential people in your life today, take a minute to decide what, from their example, you could practice today for yourself. What can you take from their example to help lead your team?
