There are lots of lists this time of year, this one isn’t based on opinion or conjecture. There is no bias included or editorial license taken. This is the complied list of our most-read, new blog posts of 2017. Because I have been blogging so long, these aren’t the most read overall, just in 2017 (in fact the most read post that I wrote this year is #14 on the overall list).

Give yourself a few minutes. Sit back and read what others have read this year; then apply something to lead more effectively in 2018. Happy reading, and happy application!

The list below is based on page views through 12/14/17.

Here we go. . .

  1. Overcoming the Organizational Communication Gap: Every leader in every organization wants to communicate more effectively. Here I have ideas for leaders and team member both – to get more clarity on what is really going on, and why.
  2. The Most Powerful (and Dangerous) Question in the World: No, I’m not going to tell you what it is. Read it already . . .
  3. Are You Playing Offense or Defense?: This was the first post I wrote in 2017 and it asks the title question and tells you why your answer is so important.
  4. Having Great One-on-Ones with Employees: I love this practical article on a topic I am asked about often. Your team members hope you read this one.
  5. One Thing People Want From Their Leaders: Again, I am not going to tell you what that one thing is, but you are a click away from finding out . . .
  6. Ten Great Coaching Questions: Any one of these could make the difference for you. Read the article to add them to your toolbox.
  7. Seven Questions to Ask Before You Have a Difficult Conversation: You will have one of those in the future, right?
  8. Getting People to Really Listen: This is the first post that features a video. Who said no one wants to read anymore?
  9. Two Truths About Humans That Leaders Must Always Remember: Both are true, and we must remember both. And yes, you will have to click to find out what they are.
  10. Five Daily Decisions: Only the second video on the list, this points you to five decisions you make everyday and urges you to be more intentional in those decisions.

And in case you are curious, here are the three most read overall, and when they were written:

  1. Six Ways Leaders Can Support Team Success: Written in July of 2011, this article gets at the heart of leadership – we lead others, after all.
  2. Using Four Types of Feedback Successfully: Written in February of 2011, I explain that there really are four types of feedback – and how to use them all to coach more effectively.
  3. What Leading By Example Really Means: The phrase leading by example is a cliché and like most clichés, most people don’t stop and think about what it means. That’s why I wrote this post in March of 2015.
