managementI’ve been writing and speaking about leadership for a long time. And nearly every day, I bump up against the word “management” in relationship to the word “leadership.” That is why I was so honored to be asked by the LinkedIn Learning team to create their updated course called Foundations of Management.

Leadership vs. Management

Let’s not let labels get in our way. As a supervisor of others, you have responsibilities for leading and managing. In the Foundations of Management course, we don’t focus on or worry about those labels. Rather, I explore ways to help you be more effective in achieving valuable outcomes with others.

What’s in this Course?

If you’ve not done a LinkedIn Learning course before, each course is based on several short videos. In Foundations of Management, that means 20 videos, most of which are 2-3 minutes long. There are also some short quizzes to help you confirm what you have learned – and to confirm completion if it is being used for tracking in your organization.

Specifically, in this course we talk about:

  • The Manager’s Perspective – Practical mindsets to help you succeed.
  • Managing Performance – Common ways to help people be more successful in their roles.
  • Delegation – Because you shouldn’t and can’t do it all yourself.
  • Doing Your Work – Things you can do as a manager to help both you and your team be more effective and productive.

If you are looking for a tool to help new managers be more effective and successful, the Foundations of Management course might be a good place to start. If you are already familiar with and like the LinkedIn Learning courseware, you might like my other course, Leading at a Distance.
