Barack Obama

I have a history with this question – though not a political one.  We did a number of activities related to learning leadership lessons from the Presidential Campaign last summer and fall.  (Here and here and here are links to some information you will find interesting).

And now more than 6 months into his Presidency, we can all begin to assess and learn from his leadership style and skills.  Yesterday I read a post from Harvard Business Publishing that makes some of these observations.  My goal for this post isn’t to provide insights myself, but to challenge you to do so.

You are watching and you are a leader, so you are perfectly qualified to make observations and learn from what President Obama is doing well – and perhaps not so well.

To get the most from this exercise, leave your political views, who you voted for, and your stance on a particular issue at the door.  Focus instead on what you can learn from what you are seeing happening in front of you.

This is an exercise in personal leadership development that requires no infrastructure, no corporate support and no organizational leadership beyond yourself.

While structured programs of all sorts are valuable (we offer one that I hope you take a look at, The Remarkable Leadership Learning System – and you can get a free sample from the link on the right side of this page), regardless of whatever leadership skill training that is available to you, you are always responsible for your own leadership growth.

This is as good a place to start as anywhere!
