Over the past few weeks I have been asked by a variety of people how the recession is affecting my business.  In every case I have told people that our business has never been better.  (In fact, I typically tell people that we’ve chosen not to participate in the recession, but that comment is for another post.)

People assume that with the current economic conditions  people aren’t travel ling, aren’t investing and well, aren’t doing anything.

While this assumption may be fact in some quarters, what I’ve told people is that now is the perfect time to invest in leadership skill training and supervisor training to build leadership skills.  Here are just three reasons why.

1.  No one else is doing it. The contrarian view is that when others aren’t doing something is the best time for you to do it.  If no one else is training their leaders, now is the perfect time to add to your skills.  As you hone yours, others are in a waiting mode.  Which group will be more successful in the short and long term?

2.  It engages learners and leaders. Providing proactive positive materials to learn and grow from are a sure way to keep people engaged in positive ways, rather than focusing on the economic challenges – some of which are irrelevant and outside of their control anyway.

3.  It is a competitive advantage. Sometime soon (sooner than the news media would lead us to believe), the economy is going to turn.  It will turn more rapidly for those who have proactively built their skills, and when it turns, and business grows, you will have greater needs for leaders as you add staff.  What organizations and people will be best prepared for this?  The masses or the organizations and individuals who have consciously created opportunities for personal and organizational leadership development?

These are powerful reasons, and you may agree personally and professionally, and yet the economic realities may be that the budget is slimmer than in the past.

Because we believe that leadership development training and good leadership skills are critical to future success in any economic climate, we are pleased to provide a solution.
