This week’s Resource Recommendation is Say it Quick! 99-Word Stories About Leadership, Learning, and Life by Brian Remer
Sometimes I get to tell you about a book that you might never otherwise learn about (it isn’t currently available on Amazon, but is available here.) I know sometimes I recommend future bestselling books by famous authors. Unfortunately, this isn’t likely one of those.
It isn’t because the book isn’t interesting – it clearly is.
It isn’t because the book isn’t unique – there is nothing like it that I am aware of.
It isn’t because the book isn’t valuable – in fact, it is useful in multiple ways by a wide audience.
Let me explain.
My long time friend Brian Remer has perfected the craft of writing stories – in exactly 99 words. He’s been doing this for a long time and then, because he is a learning professional of the highest skill, he looked for ways to help individuals and trainers use these stories to promote discussion, insight and learning.
This book brings those two sets of expertise together.
First, the book has three sets of 99 word stories – as the title suggests focused around leadership, learning and life. (Yes, there are 33 stories in each section, so there are 99, 99 word stories!) At the end of the book the stories are re-sorted into over twenty categories or themes, which make the book far more useful for the second part of the book . . .
Then Brian provides 22 exercises, approaches and suggestions of ways to use the stories to promote learning in a training class, team meeting, coaching session and more.
If you are a trainer or coach, you will find this book fascinating and useful. If you are a lifelong learner you will be energized by the book. If you love short (really short) stories, the book is fun and full of insights just for the stories as well.
I’m pleased to own a copy of this book – I will use it. I’m proud of my friend for writing this book. I’m prouder to say it is a great book. Buy a copy (or two) today.
I, too, have read Brian’s book and find it terrific. I am also proud to call Brian a friend…as I am proud to have you as a friend. We’re both so very lucky:)
