When you first read today’s quotation, you may be thinking “look at that guy’s hair.” Hopefully you can get past that and read the words. You may have heard this one before, but I hope to help you see it in at least a somewhat new light. Let’s get on with the happiness . . .

the essentials of HappinessQuestions to Ponder

– What makes me happy?

– How close is my list to Addison’s?

– Do I have his three things in my life?

Action Steps

1. If one of these criteria are missing, work to find it.

2. If you do have them all, find ways to remind yourself of them regularly.

My Thoughts

It is perfectly normal to read this quotation and think about our own happiness. In fact, I hope you do and the questions and action steps above reflect that perspective. Here though, I want to take you to a slightly different perspective. If this is what makes me happy, it is likely what makes others happy too, right? If I keep that in mind when I am leading, persuading, influencing, or selling others, I can help them see, find, or gain these things, and both they and I will be more successful.

Something to do, something to love, and something to hope for. These things bring meaning (as well as happiness) to our lives. Make it your focus and your goal to help other people attain these things, and you will be more successful in your endeavors, and will be richly blessed in the process (as well as becoming happier yourself).
