I just heard on the morning news that the first video was uploaded to YouTube – 5 years ago.

Think about how much YouTube has changed people’s habits, the Internet, and the media landscape.

Why talk about YouTube on a leadership blog (beyond that fact that you can check out my YouTube channel here)?

As leaders we must become effective observers of change.  Consider these questions.

How long would you have guessed YouTube has been around?

Did you foresee how much change it would drive?

How have you leveraged YouTube for your learning and growth?

How can you use YouTube to make a difference in your organization?

A Final Note

The questions above are useful by themselves, but the pattern underneath the questions is even more important, because this post isn’t really about YouTube.

You can take any change and ask reflective questions, current situation questions, and projected into the future questions.

  1. Sole reason why Youtube became popular was that its been acquired by Google. Being a Google Product it received more attention. However i cant rule out that Youtube is good before too. I like the way You tube adds new features into it always. Its a nice video channel for watching videos

  2. It is truly awesome to look at the changes the Internet has ushered in over the last 15 years. From email, to marketing, video, and social media; electronic communications has shrunk our world, erased geographic boundries, and empowered the individual in ways unimaginable a generation ago. This technology has not only removed barriers for leaders, but also made effective leadership a basic survival skill. We must all embrace these changes, find our space in the chaos, and lead on. Great post, thanks Kevin.
