Recently, I’ve been working on the draft of the manuscript for my next book, The Long-Distance Team, with Wayne Turmel. And during this, we’ve had to do two things at the same time. We’ve had to think about the details (getting commas and spelling right), but also making sure that the overarching goal of the book is being reached – that we’re reaching the outcomes we were after.

We are basically operating from two viewpoints – a worm’s eye view and a bird’s eye view – looking at the details and the big picture. And sometimes it’s hard to switch between those things, right?

In today’s video I have another question for you: which do you see? Now, I know all of us have been able to at one point in our lives, see either one or both. But my experience says that most people default to one or the other.

Which do you see? Which do you default to? Where do you start? And then the next question is, how often do you switch?

Because as leaders, we need to be able to do both. We need to make sure we’re switching.
