In today’s issue of our Powerquotes Plus newsletter I shared this quote from B.C. Forbes, the founder and publisher of Forbes Magazine:

“Opportunity rarely knocks on your door.  Knock rather on opportunity’s door if you ardently wish to enter.”

As a leader we must be in the opportunity business.

What are the opportunities to heklp us reach our goals?

What are the opportunities to help us develop our team members?

What are the opportunities to better serve our Customers?

What are the opportunities find new ideas?

I could go on (but you get the idea).

Here is your leadership activity for today:

Know what you need, and start knocking on the doors you find.  Become a proactive opportunity seeker, instead of passively waiting for them to find you.

Stop looking, start knocking.

  1. Kevin, you are totally right. Opportunity is there for us to change ourselves and those around us. Many times we operate in a silo, or with blinders, and we don’t take the time to evaluate, or look for ways to improve ourselves. Opportunities are with us at the workplace and at home. Thanks, and have a great weekend.

  2. Mangers do this. Leaders lead. Managers just dream of being leaders.

Frankly, opportunities isn’t a good enough goal.

    1. I agree with you David. Opportunites certainly aren’t the full picture, to be sure. They are a piece of the big picture and to me the message of being proactive about opportunites IS something leaders do!

      Thanks for your comment.

  3. To paraphrase Jefferson: “I’m a great believer in luck (opportunities!); the harder I work (the more I knock!), the more luck (the more opportunities) I have!

Great message, Kevin. We are all too often ready to approach our day from the perspective of “hoping opportunity knocks.” I love the idea of getting out there and doing the knocking! I’m learning about fund raising so this message couldn’t be more timely. Thanks!

  4. I am going to start knocking. I like how you take simple ideas and make them practical and useable. I agree with your philosophy on leadership. Now I am going out knocking. Thanks
