Sometimes a quotation stands on its own, regardless of who said it. And sometimes, when you understand or know something about the person, the quotation takes on additional weight and meaning. Today’s falls into the second category. When you think about how much Edison accomplished, it is easy to be astounded. Edison’s point is that in the end, he wasn’t all that special, except perhaps that he brought more of his potential to life . . .
Questions to Ponder
– Do I realize what I am capable of?
– When did I last astound myself?
– What could I do today to more fully utilize my potential?
Action Steps
1. When you look in the mirror today, look a bit closer – not at what you can see, but what is inside yourself.
2. Read or repeat Edison’s words as you look in the mirror, imagining he was saying them to you.
3. Take some action today based on faith in your potential, not on the “facts” you see.
4. Repeat these steps daily and prepare to be astounded.
My Thoughts
I’ve been signing off on emails and newsletters with the line You are Remarkable for many years.
Why?
Because I, like Edison, believe it. The statement is written in the present tense, and while we may not always feel Remarkable, our potential for Remarkable things is always present. And when we know that potential is there, it can change everything.
It is possible to read these words and feel regret, remorse, or even guilt; thinking you have been squandering your potential. If you are feeling that way, remember this – you can’t change the past – it is history. What you can change is your next decision. And regardless of your past, your future looks bright. (Tweet that.)
And so even if you haven’t astounded yourself recently, it doesn’t mean you aren’t capable of astounding things in the future, starting today. You really are Remarkable. And if you don’t yet see it yourself, just believe Tom and me. We see it and soon, you will too.
I fully appreciate your remarkable emails every single day I am at work. I find it “coincidental” that your emails are right on target with what I am needing to hear on that particular day. I also am appreciative of your daily quotes. Your emails are the first to be opened!
Thank you!
