Today in the first installment of my 16 learning posts to celebrate 16 years in business on my Remarkable Learning Blog, I wrote about the value of writing.  Check it out, then return here for some specific leadership lessons.

Welcome back!

In the post I talked about the value of writing to all of us.  Certainly all of those ideas apply to us as a leader.  But from a leadership communication and leadership influence perspective, there is more for us to consider.

As the article describes, writing makes us a better learner, and there are few roles in life where learning is more important to us than as a leader.  After all, it is a highly complex, highly valuable role that we play. (You do realize that, right?)

Think of writing, in a journal or on your computer, as the most inexpensive leadership development training you will ever participate in.  Especially if you haven’t written much before, it may be a challenge at first, but it will get easier as you loosen your inner judge and as you practice it.  And it won’t be long until you  realize the value for yourself and those you lead.

Additionally the article talks about the clarity that our writing gives us.  When you think about all of the leadership communication that you deliver, in a variety of ways, this leadership benefit should be self explanatory.

I’ll be back regularly to connect my 16 lessons more directly to us as leaders.  I hope you will join me.
