If you are a leader, you are on a leadership journey. And chances are, if you are reading these words, you consciously want to improve and get better. You might not, however, know what Virtual LeaderCon is. When you finish reading this short article, you will know not just that, but you will also have a template for learning from a variety of learning events and conferences – virtual or otherwise.
What is Virtual LeaderCon?
Virtual LeaderCon is a multiple day, virtual event where we bring together top experts on leadership and professional development in an interactive learning platform to share their latest thinking and biggest ideas with an eager and engaged group of leaders from around the world. I personally facilitate the conversation with each of these experts and share questions and comments from the group as well.
Past participants have said this is the most engaging, valuable and fun virtual event they have ever attended.
And this year, we have a special half-day preconference session all about remote/hybrid distributed work to help celebrate the release of the second edition of The Long-Distance Leader: Revised Rules for Remarkable Remote and Hybrid Leadership.
Here’s the best part – this interactive and curated learning event is completely free to attend live!
The Seven Ways
Now that you know what it is, let me give you seven (well, actually eight) ways to leverage this event for your personal leadership journey. The more of these suggestions you take, the more valuable the event will be both in real time and for your future success.
- Sign up! You can’t take advantage of any of it if you don’t raise your hand and get your complementary registration.
- Consider your development goals. Like with any learning event, if you consider what you are trying to improve as a leader, you will be more focused and more likely to develop in that area. With “VLC” though, you don’t have to attend the whole event. You can pick and choose the sessions based on topics, or even your favorite experts. Here is the agenda.
- Put it on your calendar. Whether you plan to attend the whole event (September 17-19) or just one session, block those time(s) on your calendar now.
- Participate. While you won’t get anything if you don’t attend, you will get far more when you participate. This is your chance to learn from me, our guests and everyone else who is attending. Imagine getting your questions answered by a world-class expert! And throughout the event, we give away books and other great prizes – and trust me, those who are actively engaged have a far better chance of winning and even multiple times!
- Attend the Q&A Session with me. At 3:55 pm ET on Thursday Sept. 19, I will lead an open Q&A, Ask Kevin anything, session. This is a great session to attend because I will answer anything, plus share some of my insights from the entire event.
- Take action-based notes. There will be plenty of information and ideas to put in your notes! But what will make a difference aren’t the words that someone else said, but the action you will take because of the idea they shared. The most important question you can ask yourself as you participate in the event is - “Now what – what will I do with what I just learned?”
- Invite colleagues to join you. Attending alone can be a great step in your leadership journey. But attending with a colleague(s) can be like a fast pass to your future. You can attend the same sessions and debrief afterwords. You can attend different sessions and exchange notes. You can partner as peer coaches to help keep each other accountable for the action steps you are going to take!
- (A bonus!) Upgrade for lifetime access. While you can attend the entire conference live for free, if you want to have access to the recordings, transcripts and other bonuses we create, you will need to upgrade. If you want the archive to review and refresh or to have access to the sessions you miss live, make sure you upgrade.
