Are you tired of webinars? I’m sure you have been to some good ones, but I’m guessing the overall quality of them is pretty uneven. And while you may recognize that people will offer a product or service at the end, sometimes it seems like all they are doing is selling. What if you could experience something different – a better webinar? What would it look like?

The Good

There is certainly plenty of good about a webinar – they can give relatively intimate access to experts, perhaps the chance to ask them questions, and of course, they are virtual.  If we went back ten years and said you could join an expert on a video feed, hear some of their biggest ideas, and never leave home or the office you would have said, that is amazing! Webinars can provide a great and efficient to share and learn information.  And the experience can be recorded to be shared with others later too.

The Bad

But webinars aren’t perfect.  They are often very passive – we listen as the expert talks and shares slides. We might have questions, and because the platform can allow lots of people to join, we don’t ask our question, or the speaker never gets to them.  We often leave with good information, but no way to translate that information into application. And sometimes webinars are used as a platform to share the products and services of the speaker or sponsor. There is nothing wrong with this approach, or goal, (we certainly do this). Yet sometimes the speaker is so focused on what they are selling, that the content delivered is weak, watered down, or very short in comparison to the pitch (we work very hard not to do this).

The Better

I’ve spent a lot of time on a lot of webinars both as expert speaker and as a participant.  And because of those experiences, we’ve been asking ourselves, how could we make it better?  How could we provide more value and create better learning for those who participate?

Our questioning and reflecting led to a new, better webinar that we call Remarkable Development Sessions.

Combining the good things about webinars, each session will start with 20 minutes of tight, clear, focused content from an expert (for now, me) on a web platform (Zoom). Combating the bad, the session will feature plenty time for you to interact with the ideas and other participants. Thirty minutes of the session will be you learning with others who attend.  We will provide questions and ideas to fuel a powerful conversation, including helping you build an action plan for successful application.

The final ten minutes will bring the full virtual group back together for the chance to ask questions of the speaker.

If you are looking for a better webinar format, this is it.  You can register for any of the first three sessions right now.
