better virtual meetingsFew people have ever found meetings to be one of the best parts of their day or job. And virtual meetings? Even before they became the only way we could meet, they tended to have even lower satisfaction scores and effectiveness. Can this be turned around? Is there a way to have better virtual meetings?

As bad a rap as meetings and virtual meetings get (with good reason in many cases), they can be effective, engaging, and helpful. They can help teams reach valuable outcomes, share information, make decisions, and even build the team. All of this is possible, and I know because I have helped thousands of leaders improve their meetings.

Help is on the way

Last Fall, I was asked by the LinkedIn Learning team to create an e-learning course titled Leading Virtual Meetings. Little did we know that a release date at the end of February 2020 would be so fortuitous.

This course encapsulates the key lessons I have learned in leading meetings of all kinds for over thirty years, and virtual ones for more than a decade. It includes practical ideas at every turn. Every video lesson was designed, written, and recorded to answer this question: How can we have better virtual meetings?

The course consists of 17 short videos (all less than 3 minutes long) along with associated quizzes to help you make sure you understand and are ready to apply the concepts. The lessons fall into three main areas:

  1. The Challenges of Virtual Meetings
  2. Before the Meeting
  3. Making Virtual Meetings Work

Throughout, I share specific ideas to help you lead and facilitate better virtual meetings. Even if you only lead a few meetings, or even if you want to be a more effective member of virtual meetings, this series of lessons will help you.

It is easy to say you want better virtual meetings, and yes, you would like meetings to be more productive and less boring and awkward. But what you really want is to get the outcomes that led you to call a meeting in the first place. What you really want is improved results, more agreement and engagement, better communication, and higher quality decisions. I guarantee you will get ideas in this course that, when applied, will give you all those things.

For a limited time, you can take the course for free with your LinkedIn account.
