I’ve written many, many times about the importance of taking vacation to us as leaders and as humans. And today I’m speaking specifically to the idea of checking email while on vacation. And while my stance hasn’t changed at all – getting time away without work is essential – I understand the hesitancy to unplug entirely. I’ll address the reasons why we can’t unplug and help you to see why you need to for your success and your team’s.

Tweet it out: Try a revolutionary concept – a vacation without email. @KevinEikenberry

  1. It took me years, and a couple stents in one of my arteries to learn this lesson. As leaders, the fear of missing out (FOMO) runs strong, and we have a fear that we would be called to task (or worse) if something happens while we are away.

If you’re fortunate enough to have someone cover for you while you’re on vacation, don’t rob that person the opportunity to grow, and take on additional responsibilities. Who knows, you might help that person become a great leader!

    Be well!
