We all face moments where we're surrounded by ideas, options, and advice. Yet, amidst this sea of possibilities, the real challenge is to pinpoint what to take action on. How do we decide where to start?

I want to offer you four critical questions to ask yourself. These aren’t just random questions; they are designed to help you sift through your thoughts and align them with your goals.

  1. What Excites You? Think about what gets you going. It's not just about the result but also about the process. Which of your ideas feels exciting or seems like it will be interesting or enjoyable in the doing, not just in the outcome?
  2. What Will Move the Needle? Consider which of your options has the best long-term value. This could be in terms of relationships, enjoyment, or even financial benefits. Ponder over the ‘why’ of starting something – if you have multiple choices, which one will enrich your life in the long run?
  3. Is the Outcome Clear? Clarity is crucial. If you're looking at options and feel uncertain about what they entail, it's time to seek clarity. An unclear goal is an enemy to both starting and succeeding.
  4. Do You Have the Necessary Resources? Assess whether you have or can obtain the resources needed. Remember, you don't always need everything from the start. Sometimes, it's about bootstrapping and figuring things out as you go along.

I believe these questions are not just for personal reflection but can also be used to overcome inertia within a team or organization. They're about making better decisions and powering through to success.

Remember, the key to success is not just in starting but in choosing the right start.
