Recent research on why leaders use executive coaching is instructive for all of us.  the research, cited here, includes the following reasons:

1.  Sharpening the leadership skills of high potential individuals

2.  Correcting leadership skill gaps

3.  Improving success rate, or reducing risk of failure of new leaders

4.  Correcting employee relations problems

5.  Providing leadership skills to those who were promoted for strong technical skills.

I challenge you to look at your organization and consider the reasons listed above and feel you don’t have any of those issues!

All of these are good reasons, but there are others that are equally important, if not as often cited in the research.

Leadership is the most highly leveraged skill in an organization.  As you improve the skills of leaders, you heighten the opportunity for improvement across everyone they lead and interact with.

AND

We can’t learn anything as complex as leadership during an event – regardless of how good the leadership development training might be.

Leadership skill training, in almost every case, an event.  But long term learning and improvement is a process, not an event.  Executive or leadership coaching is one powerful way to create ongoing learning opportunities for leaders (including you).

If you are looking for executive leadership coaching for yourself or others in your organization, we can help.  If you are looking for ways to integrate leadership coaching with your leadership development programs, we have a variety of ways, and ideas to help you make this happen.

Give us a call (317-387-1424) or email us (info@kevineikenberry.com) and we’ll be happy to help you think about these important issues.
