As a leader, one of the most challenging situations you can face is being asked a question for which you don't have the answer. It's natural to feel pressure to know everything and be the expert in your field. However, the truth is, none of us can know everything, and it's okay not to have all the answers.

I understand this dilemma because I've been there myself. As a new leader, you might be feeling overwhelmed and stressed out by the expectations placed upon you. But the reality is that answers may have gotten you promoted, but they won't necessarily help you be a successful leader.

The world is complex and ever-changing, and no one person can have all the answers. It's important to take the pressure off yourself and change your internal expectations. You don't have to have all the answers to be a great leader. Instead, focus on being a resource for your team, helping them find the answers they need to be successful.

When faced with a question for which you don't have the answer, don't be afraid to admit it. Say, "I don't know," and then engage your team by asking, "What do you think?" This approach not only shows humility and vulnerability, but it also fosters collaboration and empowers your team to contribute their ideas and insights.

Another question you can ask is, "When do we need an answer?" This question helps you prioritize the question and determine how urgent it is. Lastly, say, "Let's find out." By doing this, you're signaling to your team that you're committed to finding the answer, and you're willing to work together to do so.

Remember, taking the pressure off yourself to know everything and changing your expectations is the first step in becoming a more successful leader. By doing so, you'll be better equipped to help your team succeed and achieve their goals.
